What does explosion proof mean?

Ex proof is specially produced products that are designed as explosion proof against fire and similar disasters. These products are used in many different sectors.

The areas where Ex proof products should be used are refineries producing petroleum and similar products, gas and crude oil pumping plants, on ships that transport products such as oil, in hangars where aircraft repair and maintenance are carried out, in food factories, in flour and sugar factories, in natural gas boiler rooms, fertilizer production and chemical products production centers, in paint manufacturing facilities, coal mines, in areas where paint raw materials are stored, LPG filling and discharge centers, in flammable and explosive material production areas and cement manufacturing factories. Ex proof products must be used in all indoor and outdoor working areas with risk. The use of non-explosion proof products in such areas will be threatened by possible sparks and arcs.

Ex proof products are produced in different types and models in order to be used in different sectors. Led Linear lightings, fluorescent lighting, led high ceiling fixtures, Electric panels, control boxes, Crane control boxes, Plugs and sockets and led projectors. These products, which show resistance and durability against explosion, are of great importance in order to prevent loss of life and property in possible scenarios.

Ex proof products must be produced in accordance with international “Atex” standards. Institutions or products that have certificates in this field should be preferred. To meet the criteria for the explosion proof rating, an enclosure must be able to contain any explosion originating within its housing and prevent sparks from within its housing from igniting vapors, gases, dust, or fibers in the air surrounding it. Therefore, explosion proof, when referring to electrical enclosures, does not mean that it is able to withstand an exterior explosion. Instead, it is the enclosure’s ability to prevent an internal spark or explosion from causing a much larger blast.
